Welcome To Run Rox and Resilience: A Journey Begins
Hello and welcome to Run Rox and Resilience, I am thrilled to have you here!
Run Rox and Resilience is a physical and mental well-being blog aimed at tired, stressed and burnt-out dads looking to supercharge their current lifestyles.
My Name is David Brown and for years I was living a life where I just did not feel like I was in control.
I struggled with the pressures of everyday life, being a parent, trying to run a business (several failed attempts), working a job and maintaining relationships.
I was living a life that I did not want to live.
As I am sure many of you guys have as well or you would not be here.
This led to me being irritable with people around me, my physical health and mental health took a dive, and I did not like the person I had become, that is when I knew something had to change.
That is when I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and self-development. Completing months of CBT therapy, reading countless self-help books and committing to a non-negotiable workout routine.
I have been able to build a strong mindset that allows me to deal with anything that life throws my way!
The Mission
The purpose of Run Rox and Resilience is to help busy tired and burnt-out dads who feel like they have more to give but just do not know where to start, dads who have been struggling with a lack of focus, dads who just want to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
I want to help improve their mental focus, by using fitness as a tool to help them build resilience and live their life as the person they want to be for the people around them.
Using my experiences, with running and hyrox, and my struggles with mental health, I want to share the basic techniques that I implemented to change my physical and mental well-being I want to inspire you to live a healthier and happier lifestyle.
Hyrox
I have mentioned hyrox racing briefly above, you may never have heard of hyrox as it is a new sport.
So, what is hyrox?
“HYROX combines both running & functional workout stations, where participants run 1km, followed by 1 functional workout station, repeated eight times.
Each race is hosted indoors in expansive exhibition halls, creating an immersive and electrifying race, where your spectators can support you from the very beginning to the very end.
This race format remains consistent across the globe, enabling global leaderboards & a cumulative World Championships at the end of each race season.
Accommodating both professional athletes and everyday fitness enthusiasts looking to take their training to the next level, HYROX is the sport for everybody”
The explanation above is taken directly from the HYROX website (www.hyrox.com).
The functional exercises are as follows
-
-
- 1000m SkiErg
- 50m Sled push
- 50m Sled Pull
- 80m Burpee Broad Jumps
- 1000m RowErg
- 200m Farmers Walk
- 100m Sandbag walking lunges
- 100 Wall balls
-
The idea is to complete all runs and all stations in as fast a time as possible.
At times during the race, you are going to be going to a dark place within yourself and wondering why you are even doing it, however, when you get to that finishing line there is no greater feeling!
The atmosphere inside the arena is so welcoming, it is full of people that are there in support for everyone to achieve the goal of completing the race.
One of the things that I love about HYROX more than anything is the accessibility of it, sure there are elite categories, but anyone can sign up and anyone can complete a hyrox race, there are no restrictions.
The first Hyrox I ever went to was Glasgow and I was not sure what to expect, I thought it was going to all heavily ripped and extremely for people running around the SEC, however, I was surprised to see people of all ages and all fitness levels taking part.
I do think that it is a great way to get involved in sports.
Running
Running is such an amazing sport to get involved with, it can be very accessible at the start, however, be warned once you start running races and events it becomes very addictive and expensive.
The power of running is amazing and the positive effects it can have on your mental health is well documented.
I feel like if you can get yourself up early on a cold December morning to go for a run you can do anything.
For me running has become a type of therapy, I can put on my shoes stick on a playlist and go, this gives me time to reset.
I have been an on-and-off runner for years now, I used to get myself to a decent level of fitness and then I would fall away from it, it almost always coincided with a big life event.
It was not until the start of 2024 that I started to take it more seriously and with consistency throughout 2024 I am now the fittest I have ever been and smashing running goals and PBs regularly.
I think with my help and a little bit of consistency you too can achieve that goal you have been thinking about for years.
